A year of writing prompts: 20 December

How to use these prompts

Is this a department store done up for the festive season?
Write about the staff and customers.
Or is someone getting a building for Christmas?

Prompts

  1. A child goes to see Santa Claus in a supermarket grotto (or another setting if you prefer, like a charity party or a National Trust house). Santa is, of course, only someone dressed up, but nonetheless, something magical happens.
  2. "The world falls apart, but some things stay in place." Billy Bragg
  3. Today was the birthday of Dr Samuel Mudd, who was imprisoned for aiding and abetting John Wilkes Booth in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln - when all he did was give medical assistance to the assassin. Your character is wrongly accused of something purely as a consequence of doing their job.
  4. Shovels were celebrated by the French Revolutionary Calendar today. Write a story featuring a shovel.
  5. Uri Geller was born in 1946, famous for his psychic powers, most notably his ability to bend spoons. Your character has a similar power. What do they do with it?
