Prompts
  1. The last London Frost fair was held in 1814, when the Thames froze and entertainers and food-sellers could set up shop on the frozen river. Write a story or description from the point of view of someone who attended the frost fair.
  2. It's mallard day, commemorating the discovery of a duck trapped in the sewers of Oxford University as it was being built. Write a story featuring a duck.
  3. "Do something for somebody every day for which you do not get paid." Albert Schweitzer
  4. On the birthday of Thornton Burgess, who wrote, "though right or wrong you're sure to find relief in making up your mind" write a story about someone with a big decision to make.
  5. On the birthday of Benedict Arnold, whose name, in the US, is a symbol for treason and betrayal, write a story involving treason or betrayal.
