Prompts

  1. "When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before." Mae West
  2. It's Archaeology Day. An archaeologist makes a startling discovery.
  3. In 1997, the first camel races were held in Europe. Write a story set at the first championship of an unusual or wacky sport, or one taken out of its usual environment, like camel races in Germany or skiing in Jamaica.
  4. In 1590, John White, founder of a colony on Roanoke Island in North Carolina, returned from a trip to England to find the colony deserted. No-one knows where the people went. But you have a theory as to what happened to them, don't you? Please enlighten us!
  5. In 2000, during the first Big Brother, "Nasty Nick" was discovered to be cheating by showing pieces of paper with the names of people he wanted nominated for eviction. Your character is caught cheating on a TV reality show.

  • Extravagant - spend their money as quickly as they earn it.
  • Will take the initiative in romance. They are passionate and emotional and find the opposite sex hard to resist. This can lead to their downfall.
  • Good taste; appreciate art.
  • Protective of their family.
  • Likely to be overweight or underweight and may drink too much.
  • Proud and egotistical.
  • Fond of the sea and may enjoy fishing but there is a risk of drowning or danger from water.
  • Also have strong ties to the soil.
  • Grasp the essential concepts of a theory and don't waste time with unnecessary details.
  • Work for good causes in the interests of the community. May be drawn to the church or teaching.
  • Ability to plan big commercial enterprises.
  • Health tends to be good throughout life, although it's possible they could suffer from angina, rheumatism or a bad back.
  • Dislike steady effort and so their lives and fortunes tend to be unstable.
