Prompts

  1. Say "Cheese" Day. Your character is posing for a photograph. At a wedding perhaps, or as part of a studio photo-shoot. Perhaps he or she is a celebrity or a model or having their picture taken for a new job (for ID or a company website). Perhaps they are even having a mug shot taken by police. The point is, while they are having their picture taken, something odd happens.
  2. It's National Lighthouse Day. Write a story featuring a lighthouse.
  3. "In any ethical situation, the thing you least want to do is probably the right action." Jerry Pournelle
  4. Arch-Sceptic James Randi was born on this date in 1928. He has offered a $1,000,000 prize to the first person who can prove to him that the paranormal exists. Your character is a psychic, medium or supernatural being who is trying to prove to a staunch unbeliever that such things exist.
  5. Red Adair died on this date in 2004. He was famous for putting out oil well fires in Kuwait. He once said that he had a pact with the Devil which would gain him an air-conditioned room in Hell in exchange for not putting all the fires out. In your story, someone arrives in Hell with the potential to really screw things up for Satan and his minions.
