How to use these prompts

Prompts

  1. "They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do." Philip Larkin
  2. On the birthday of PL Travers, who created Mary Poppins, write a story in which a family employ an unusual nanny.
  3. It's Veep Day. Your character is the Vice-President of something - a country, a company, an organisation - you choose. One day, something happens to the President...
  4. Write a story beginning with the words, "It was a great British summer..."
  5. It's Book Lovers Day. Your character loves books. I mean, is obsessed with books.

Character Traits
  • Will probably travel a lot, spending time abroad on business or serving their country. May become famous in the countries they travel to. They could also face material danger in those countries, causing setbacks on their way to wealth and renown.
  • Have a taste for the exotic and a thirst for discovery.
  • While they always show gratitude for good deeds done to them, they will bear grudges for the bad ones, and delight in getting revenge - something they will wait patiently for.
  • Hard working, good organisers who tend to be lucky.
  • Sturdy, steadfast and energetic but can be headstrong and rude.
  • Have little respect for social customs and do not care what people think of them.
  • Do things their own way and tend not to accept help.
  • May be considered odd, eccentric or peculiar.
  • Capable of leading a great movement.
