A year of writing prompts: 14 September

How to use these prompts

Who is this superhero couple? How did they meet?
Who are the villains? How were they/will they be defeated?
What happens next?

14 September

  1. It's Hug a Crabby Stranger Day. Your character encounters a grumpy stranger, and finds a way to soften their heart.
  2. On Boss/Employee Exchange Day, write about a day when a boss/employee, teacher/student, parent/child, or some such pairing, swap places for 24 hours.
  3. All things which are similar and therefore connected, are drawn to each other's power.” Agrippa
  4. Today is Holy Rood Day, which is traditionally the day sailors would tie up their boats for the winter, and people would go nutting. According to folklore, nuts gathered today would have magical or healing properties, but they must be picked early, for the devil goes nutting later in the day. Young people would use nutting as an excuse for a bit of hanky panky and nuts are associated with fertility. Pick one or more of these superstitions and use it as the basis for a story.
  5. A character in Baroness Orczy's book A Bride of the Plains describes the 14th of September as “the ugliest, blackest, most god-forsaken day in the entire year.” Your character is in total agreement. Why?
