A year of writing prompts: 14 October

How to use these prompts

Who are these people?
What is their mission? Good guys or bad guys?
Are they siblings? A couple? Just co-workers?
Something else?

Prompts

  1. In 1982, 5,837 couples belonging to the Unification Church were married in one mass wedding. Most had been chosen for each other by the Church. It is several years on from this. Write about where one or more of those couples might be today. Did they stay married? Did they stay in the church? What happened if one half of the couple stopped believing? Or if both the couple left the church, what did their neighbours and friends, who'd married along with them, then do?
  2. Winnie The Pooh was published in 1926. Either write a completely new Winnie the Pooh story or a story based on your own childhood toys (or those of your children if you have any).
  3. "It may take two people to make a really beautiful mistake." ee cummings
  4. In 1987, a man who'd failed to make contact with a fellow smuggler, flushed 52 bars of gold down an airline toilet. Write a story featuring a toilet in an aeroplane.
  5. "Dad, can I borrow the space ship tonight?"

Character Traits
  • Success and fame possible in science or the arts, both subjects they have a great interest in.
  • Tireless researchers with a fascination for nature's secrets - so they may be especially attracted to chemistry, medicine, astronomy or psychology. As worshippers of knowledge, they can make significant discoveries.

  • Law, real estate, literature, theatre, art or exploration are other fields they may enter.
  • Particularly good at analysing and cataloguing their discoveries. Pay great attention to detail.
