How to use these prompts

What myths and legends might be associated with this hill?
Or modern day traditions like a family picnic,
or cheese rolling?


Prompts

  1. In 2010, a previously undiscovered tribe was discovered in the Amazon jungle. It's not known how many more undiscovered tribes there may be. Write about one. Describe their lives, their customs. What kind of religion do they have? What do they eat? How do they celebrate coming of age, marriages, births, deaths? If you like you can describe what happens when the explorers from the city arrive.
  2. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." PJ O'Rourke
  3. In South Korea, today is Movie Day, when couples go to the cinema or give each other movie related gifts. Write a movie themed story. It can be about a trip to the cinema, or about the making of a film. or, if you prefer, your characters decide to stay in and watch a film on TV.
  4. The profession of librarian began on this date in 1732 when Louis Timothie became the first librarian to be paid a salary. Write story set in a library.
  5. In 2001 a World Toilet Summit was held in Singapore. Your character is a delegate at this or some other world conference about an unlikely topic.

  • Do not trust others easily. Tend to assume the worst about people until proved otherwise.
  • May earn great respect and esteem from their actions to rescue people in need.
  • May be gruff and quarrelsome.
  • Tendency to strive for wealth and worldly gain, with a possibility that they will embark on a life of crime to get it.
  • Relations with the opposite sex can cause trouble.
  • There may be a connection with a magician, or magicians, in their life.
  • Risk takers with little concern for personal safety. Sometimes it seems they even expect to get caught out.
  • The person in a family who takes care of everyone else, but gets little thanks for it.
  • Sharp insight and ability to see beneath the surface.
  • Needs to beware of jealousy, hypocrisy and slander.
  • Drawn to a career as a nurse or paramedic.
