A year of writing prompts: 9 November

How to use these prompts

Who is this woman?
Why is she surrounded by animals?

Prompts

  1. In 2011, Dutch scientists made a "nanocar", an electric car made out of a single molecule. It's the world's smallest vehicle. Who might drive a tiny vehicle like this and where might they go?
  2. It's Inventor's day. Your character is an inventor. Is their invention a serious one or a wacky one? Who do they pitch it to, and what is the reaction? Inventor's day is today because it's the birthday of Hedy Lamarr, a beautiful film star who was also an inventor - so perhaps your inventor is someone who doesn't fit the inventor stereotype.
  3. "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." Carl Sagan
  4. Today in Mirano, Italy, the town staged a life size snakes and ladders game using people as pieces and real ladders. Write about a community which decides to stage a life size game. It can be snakes and ladders, monopoly, Cluedo or any game you like.
  5. Traditionally the date when the Lord Mayor of London would be sworn in. Your theme is the Lord Mayor of London. Your story can feature a Lord Mayor as a principal character, and/or be set during the Lord Mayor's annual parade, since today is also Parade Day.
