A Year of Writing Prompts: 12 December

How to use these prompts

Where is this ship going?
Who is on board?
Do the people in the town welcome its arrival?

Prompts

  1. Today's guardian angel is Imamiah, a fallen angel who supervises and controls voyages. Write about a voyage which is being controlled by an angel - or if you prefer, a demon. Where are your characters going, and why? Why does the angel or demon want them to get there (or not get there)? What goes wrong, or right?
  2. "Anything becomes interesting if you look at it long enough." Gustave Flaubert
  3. It's Gingerbread House day, so write a story entitled The Gingerbread House. It can be made of gingerbread, or be a real house that looks as if it ought to be.
  4. From today in Iceland they celebrate the Yule Lads. These mischievous spirits were once seen as cannibals which would eat bad children; now they just play tricks. One arrives each night between now and Yule and have names like Pot Scraper and Sausage Sniffer. Your character lives in a culture where a new mischievous spirit is said to arrive every evening between now and Christmas. Perhaps it only happens to one family as a result of an old curse. Exactly what the spirits are and what they do is entirely up to you. What do people to to mitigate the activities of the spirits?
  5. The Kingdom of Ice.
