A year of writing prompts: 17 December

How to use these prompts

Even superheroes have to prepare for Christmas!
What might this one have wrapped up to give to her friends?

Prompts

  1. In 1967, the then Prime Minister of Australia, Harold Holt, went for a swim, assuring his friends he'd be safe. He was never seen again. Write about a person who walks into the sea and never comes back. Is it a suicide? What led them to that point? Did they fake their own death? Was there an accident? An abduction?
  2. "For all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: It night have been." John Greenleaf Whittier
  3. Born this date in 1947 was Simon Bates, the Radio One DJ whose morning show included "Our Tune", where people would write in with a soppy story behind the record they had chosen. Write a story, connected to a song, that could have been featured on "Our Tune".
  4. "Between wrongness and rightness, there is a field. I will meet you there." Rumi
  5. A child waits eagerly to find out which part they have been assigned in the school nativity play.
