A year of writing prompts: 9 December

How to use these prompts

Whatever is happening here?

Prompts

  1. "They also serve who only stand and wait." John Milton
  2. It's Christmas Card Day. Your character is writing his or her Christmas cards. You can reproduce their "round robin" letter, or write about what they feel and think when they come across a name from the past on the list. A dilemma about whether to send a certain person a card, or not, and the consequences of doing so or not doing so.
  3. Flick through the Christmas cards you have ready to send, have received or any still lying around from last year. If you don't have any to hand, pop into a shop and look at them on the shelves. Pick a scene on one of the cards and write the story behind it.
  4. "They Will Not Pass."
  5. It's Home-Made Gift Day. Your character is hand making a gift for someone.
