A Year of Writing Prompts: March 21

How to use these prompts

What is the building? A house? If so, who lives there?
A hotel? A pub? School? Care home?
Who are the people sitting on the bench?

Prompts

  1. Either today or yesterday is Astrology Day, celebrated at the Vernal Equinox. Write a story featuring astrology - it could feature an astrologer, or someone who reads their stars in the newspaper.
  2. Mrs Badger has been married to three husbands... and each time upon the twenty-first of March at eleven in the forenoon." Charles Dickens
  3. The famous prison, Alcatraz, closed in 1963. Write a story about a prison which is closing. Why is it closing? What happens to any inmates who are still there at the end?
  4. A man named William Miller predicted that the world would end on this date in 1845 and then again in 1844. Nothing happened, of course. Write about someone who predicts a catastrophe which doesn't occur. What does the person do when nothing happens?
  5. It's National Teenagers Day. Write a story about teenagers.
