A Year of Writing Prompts: March 6

How to use these prompts

What is this woman doing on the roof?
How did she get there?
What is she holding in her hand?
Why is she crying?

Prompts

  1. "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." Elizabeth Barrett Browning
  2. Don't Join the Circus Day. Write a story about someone who ignores this advice and runs away to join a circus.
  3. In 1918 a US naval vessel called Cyclops disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. Assuming the triangle exists and things can vanish through it, describe what might be on the other side.
  4. In 2001, a £3m lottery jackpot was claimed minutes before the claim deadline expired. Write a story about a similar situation. Why did the winner not claim for six months after the draw? Describe a possible race against time to get the claim in on time.
  5. Today is the feast day of St Baldred of Glasgow, a Scottish bishop and hermit who was "wonderfully buried in three places". How this should be was never explained... until now.
